This famous Hindu festival holds deep significance for the Lord Shiva devotees, also known as Kanwarias. They walk to the spiritual places like Haridwar, Gangotri, and Gaumukh to get holy water from the Ganges River and offer it to the jyotirlingas. As a sign of their devotion to Lord Shiva, some of the devotees walk barefoot, constantly chanting ‘Bol Bam.’

Safety Measures Taken By The Government

The 2025 Kanwar Yatra has already begun, and the government is taking strong action to ensure safety and avoid dreadful incidents. As per the report of the Hindustan Times, throughout the route, 587 gazetted officers, 13,520 sub-inspectors, 2,040 inspectors, and 39,965 constables from the police and paramilitary forces have been placed. The authorities have also deployed 1,486 women sub-inspectors and 8,541 women constables.

The government installed 29,454 CCTVs with 395 high-tech drones, including anti-drones and tethered drones. The real-time footage of the Kanwar Yatra is directed to the DGP headquarters. Connected to a ground power source, tethered drones function smoothly for a long time. These drones also cover the sensitive areas.

Moreover, the massive use of the internet has led to a rise in the spread of misleading news. To prevent this, a social media team of eight members is keeping a close eye on online activities. Officials have been given a separate control room to analyse the updates from electronic media, UP-112 and many others.

Officials from Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan have also created a WhatsApp group to stay updated on the happenings across each state. As reported by The Hindu, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to take strict action against any disrespectful acts during this spiritual yatra.
