As the holy month of Sawan begins on July 22, so does the annual Kanwar Yatra towards Haridwar to collect water from River Ganga. The authorities are expecting 15-20 lakh devotees to participate in this year’s yatra and have imposed traffic restrictions and diversions accordingly. The Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana police authorities have issued several traffic advisories in Delhi, Noida, Gurgaon, and Ghaziabad. Read on to know all about them.
Traffic Police Issues Advisories For Smooth Traffic Flow

To ensure smooth traffic flow and ease for Kanwar Yatra pilgrims, the Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana police authorities have issued traffic advisories from July 22 to August 2. Anticipating a heavy influx of devotees, these advisories are mainly for Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, and Ghaziabad.
As per the authorities, they are expecting 15-20 lakh devotees to pass through the Delhi-NCR. To manage this movement, the state traffic police have arranged separate routes to minimise inconvenience for both local residents and devotees.

The Uttar Pradesh Police closed the Delhi-Meerut Expressway for heavy vehicles on Monday. As per a Hindustan Times report, these vehicles will be diverted to alternative routes until 8 PM on August 5. Furthermore, traffic restrictions will extend to all vehicles, including private cars, from July 29.

Diversions & Routes To Avoid During Kanwar Yatra 2024
Here are some key route diversions and closures to keep in mind while travelling in Delhi-NCR over the next few days.
1. Traffic coming from Delhi via Tulsi Niketan, Seemapuri, and Anand Vihar to Ghaziabad will be re-directed along Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg towards UP Gate.
2. Vehicles moving towards Haridwar, Amroha, Moradabad, and Lucknow will have to use UP Gate, NH-9, the Dasna Intersection, and then follow the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
3. Vehicles from Baghpat which are moving towards Delhi will be re-directed through either Tronica City or Sonia Vihar.
4. Traffic from Hapur and Bulandshahr going towards Ghaziabad via the Dasna railway overbridge will be rerouted to NH-9.
5. Traffic movement along the Loni border will be restricted. Also, vehicles going from the Santosh Medical will be cut on NH-9 towards Meerut Tiraha.
6. For Ghaziabad, heavy vehicle movement has been restricted at Gaur Green, Khoda, Kala Patthar, Sector 62, Chhijarasi, and Kanavani to Indirapuram via NH-9.
7. For those coming from Hapur via Bhojpur towards Modinagar will be rerouted. Traffic coming from the Vasundhara flyover towards Mohannagar will also be halted.
8. Delhi Police has issued a list of several locations that are prone to heavy congestion during Kanwar Yatra. These include Najafgarh Firni, Rohtak Road, Pankha Road, Dev Prakash Shastri Marg, Nangloi-Najafgarh Road, Outer Ring Road, Rani Jhansi Road from Baraf Khana Chowk to Fire Station, Boulevard Road at Azad Market Chowk, Gokul Puri Flyover, 66 Foota Road, Maujpur Chowk, Badarpur T Point, and Mathura Road. Traffic is also expected to be heavy on NH-08 from Dhaula Kuan Metro Station to Rajokri border.
The authorities have advised commuters to plan their journeys carefully and well in advance to avoid delays. Also, make sure to check for any traffic updates before heading out.
