Karnataka: 500 Temples Across State Release Strict Dress Code; No Midi, Shorts Allowed

Visiting temples and praying to the gods and goddesses have always been such a calming and spiritual experience. Be it near our homes or while travelling to different destinations, many of us often like to visit religious places and experience serenity. If you wish to explore the temples of Karnataka, let us give you an important update. Many temples in the state now have a specific dress code to follow, which has been announced recently.

A Dress Code Has Been Announced For Devotees In Temples Of Karnataka

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, HJS Karnataka (@HJSKarnataka) shared information about this new dressing code implemented in over 500 temples in Karnataka. There are about 50 temples in Bengaluru where this rule is to be followed.

A meeting of the Karnataka Devasthana-Matha mattu Dharmika Sansthegala Mahasangha was conducted where the decision was taken to establish the rule of following a dress code in many Karnataka temples “in order to preserve the sanctity, manners, and culture of the temples”, according to the Press Note issued on January 10.

The management of the temples in Bengaluru has started working on the recently announced dress code from Wednesday. The Karnataka Devasthana Mahasangha and Hindu Janajagruta Samiti are going to add boards mentioning the instructions in front of temples. The rules of the dress code are to be followed and maintained strictly. Before announcing the guidelines of the dress code to enter temples, an appeal was made, according to a report by Republic World. The Hindu organisations nodded yes to the changes and later the announcement was made on Wednesday.

The code prohibits wearing different types of outfits and dressing options from entering many temples in Karnataka. There are specific attire codes for both men and women. Everyone needs to dress accordingly and wear appropriate clothes before visiting the temples following the code.

What Kind Of Outfits Are Not Allowed?

HJS Karnataka (@HJSKarnataka) shared the Press Note of the Press Conference by Karnataka Devasthana-Matha mattu Dharmika Sansthegala Mahasangha.

Male devotees entering the temples cannot wear bermuda, shorts, or torn jeans. In fact, wearing any kind of t-shirt where the chest can be seen is not allowed. For women devotees, they cannot enter temples if seen in midi, shorts, or torn jeans.

“Wearing Indian clothes will promote our culture and awaken self-esteem in the young generation”, stated Mr. Mohan Gowda, the Karnataka Devasthana-Matha mattu Dharmika Sansthegala Mahasangha coordinator.
