Karnataka Government has now shut down malls, theatres, pubs, schools, colleges, summer camps, exhibitions and mass gathering events across the state for one week due to Coronavirus from Saturday, 13th March. India’s first death due to the deadly virus had been reported from Karnataka after samples of a deceased 76-year-old man from Kalburgi were declared positive. And the state has been put on vigilance due to the virus. So party goers, this weekend in Bangalore would mean no booze, no movies and no shopping. It’s all about health and safety.

B S Yediyurappa, the Chief Minister of Karnataka announced this decision to shut down malls, cinema halls, pubs, schools, colleges, summer camps and other mass gatherings as a means to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. The Chief Minister took this decision after having an emergency meeting with his cabinet colleagues and officials to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken to keep the virus at bay. The CM also revealed that the government has decided to ban all mass gatherings and cautioned people to stay at home.
He also advised IT and BT companies to permit employees to work from home for one week. He said this was to avoid the transmission of the virus. It can be noted that out of the six infected people of Karnataka, three of them are IT employees. The Karnataka government has urged people to not organize big events including wedding ceremony that usually witness heavy footfall. The Chief Minister said that if people have already planned an event like a marriage then it would be better to restrict the number of attendees to 100. He also stated that the government will decide on lifting the ban after evaluating the situation after a week. But exams will be held as per schedule.

The Medical Education Minister, Dr K Sudhakar announced that they are thinking of dedicating a 300 to the 400-bed hospital to treat only virus-affected people.
