Karnataka Issues Circular For Districts Neighbouring Kerala Amidst Nipah Virus

The fear of the Nipah virus is spreading all around. With the news of two deaths and new reported infections because of the virus, people are getting more anxious about the current situation in Kerala. To control the outbreak, the Kerala government has already announced some village panchayats as containment zones. Now Karnataka government also issued some rules for the outbreak of infections in the neighbouring state.

Karnataka has several districts that are bordering Kerala. In view of the outbreak of the zootonic virus in Kerala, the Karnataka government has taken some important decisions and issued a circular on Thursday. One of the most important actions is intensifying surveillance and vigilance in the districts that are neighbouring Kerala. The districts where the government is intensifying observation are Chamrajanagara, Dakshin, Kannada, Kodagu, and Mysore, according to a report by Republic World.

The circular by the Karnataka government states about avoiding any unnecessary travel plans to the places in Kerala that are affected by the Nipah virus. The entry points of Karnataka are under proper checking from now onwards.

The primary reason for the government to announce a circular and intensify surveillance in districts bordering Kerala is to stop transmission of the outbreak of the virus and infection in Karnataka.

In the times of the infection cases of the Nipah virus, the Karnataka government mentioned in the circular to stock enough oxygen, necessary drugs, PPE kits, and important things required for sample collection. According to the new developments, private hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes need to inform the District Health and Family Welfare Officer of the specific district regarding any suspected cases. This needs to be done urgently. The guideline also states about shipping the test sample to Pune’s National Institute of Virology (NIV) through Bengaluru’s NIV.

The zootonic virus is deadly and to prevent getting infected, people need to follow all the rules and guidelines. Maintaining the circular is going to help in preventing the risk of the virus infecting people.
