This afternoon, there was a massive cloudburst in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. At least 12 people are feared dead after flash floods triggered by the cloudburst. Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot, and several helicopters have been deployed in the area for relief operations.
12 Dead After Massive Cloudburst In Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar
According to NDTV, at least 12 people have been reported dead after a cloudburst in the Chashoti village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Thursday afternoon. As per the initial ground report, around 57 people have been injured. Authorities fear that the death toll may rise as search and rescue operations are now underway.
A massive cloudburst has struck the Chishoti area in Jammu & Kashmir’s Kishtwar, along the route to the Machail Mata Yatra.
As per initial reports heavy losses are feared.

Chashoti is the starting point for the Machail Mata Yatra. The hamlet is also the last motorable village on the way to the Himalayan shrine of Mata Chandi in Kishtwar. Due to the flash floods, the annual yatra has been suspended. According to media reports, a CISF personnel, on duty for the yatra, was among the dead. Furthermore, three other CISF soldiers are missing.

Search & Rescue Operations Underway
Search and rescue teams were rushed to the scene immediately after the news of the Jammu and Kashmir cloudburst broke out. Large-scale operations are now underway to search for survivors and evacuate those trapped. The state rescue teams are working with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and army teams. The inclement weather in the region is currently posing a challenge for the rescue teams.

Visuals on social media show pilgrims being evacuated from the starting point of the yatra. Authorities have made arrangements for medical management at the site of the cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir. They are also planning to airlift the injured. Heavy rainfall, with rising river levels and flash floods, has been reported in other areas of Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch.
