With an aim to improve travellers’ experience, Indian Railways has announced redevelopment plans for 35 railway stations in Kerala. These stations will be completely reconstructed to build world-class stations in the state. Besides that, Railways also plans to increase the number of MEMU trains in Kerala. 35 Railway Stations To Be Redeveloped In Kerala
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that 35 stations in Kerala will be redeveloped as part of a railway development initiative in the state. He announced this plan during a press conference in Kozhikode and mentioned that the redevelopment work has already started and “is progressing rapidly.”
These redevelopments will take at these stations in Kerala – Alappuzha, Angadipuram, Angamaly, Chalakudy, Changanassery, Chengannur, Chirayinkeezhu, Ernakulam, Ernakulam Town, Ettumanoor, Feroke, Guruvayur, Kannur, Kasaragod, Kayamkulam Jn, Kollam Jn, Kozhikode Main (Calicut), Kuttippuram, Mavelikara, Neyyattinkara, Nilambur Road, Ottapalam, Parappanangadi, Payyanur, Punalur, Shoranur Jn, Thalassery, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Tirur, Tiruvalla, Thrippunithura, Vatakara, Varkala, and Wadakkanchery.

Infrastructural Expansion, More Trains & All You Need To Know
According to a Mathrubhumi report, to improve and develop railway infrastructure in the state, the ministry has allotted a ₹3,000 crore yearly budget in Kerala. This is a massive increase from the ₹370 crore that used to be allotted to the state a decade ago. The Railway Minister highlighted that ₹393 crore is the current redevelopment budget for the Thrissur railway station.
To expand and improve the infrastructure, the Indian Railways plan to add third and fourth lanes on the Mangaluru-Shoranur line and Shoranur-Palakkad-Coimbatore line. They will also add the third lane in the Shoranur-Ernakulam, Ernakulam-Kottayam-Thiruvananthapuram, and Thiruvananthapuram-Nagercoil lines. Furthermore, for passenger ease, they will also increase the number of MEMU trains operational in Kerala, Mathrubhumi reported.
