Flights are taking their inflight meal experience a step forward. To celebrate the spirit of Durga Puja, Air India is offering a special meal for passengers flying out of Kolkata. Here’s what will be included in this inflight meal.
Air India Offers Durga Puja Meal For Passengers Out Of Kolkata
In a nice gesture that perfectly captures the spirit of the holiday season, Air India has revealed a unique perk for travellers departing from Kolkata during the Durga Puja celebrations. The airline is going over and beyond from October 21 to October 23 to make sure that travellers are able to taste the hospitality of Bengali culture.
To help passengers feel at home and embrace the joy of Durga Puja, Air India has produced a carefully curated menu of Bengali food. Among other regional specialities, the menu offers well-known dishes like egg chicken rolls, rich mutton kosha (a mutton dish), crispy fish kabiraji (fried fish with an egg covering), and the heartwarming koraishutir kachori (pea kachori).
Popular Bengali delicacies have been included by the airline to sweeten the deal and ensure that travellers taste the celebrations with each bite. It’s a kind gesture that elevates the journey to a whole new level of specialness.

What Is Eaten During Puja?
In concept, Durga Puja is a spring festival, but what we observe today is “akal bodhan,” or an out-of-season celebration. It is claimed to have been started by Lord Rama just before his fight with Ravana. With great zeal and enthusiasm, the autumnal festival got underway at that point.
Pujo, however, was never merely a holiday in Bengal; it was always a sociopolitical event that symbolised the struggle for dominance among members of various social classes. The people would queue outside their homes to get a peek, and for the longest period before the British arrived in Bengal.
When it comes to food, whether it be zamindari or sarbojanin pujo, there are some similarities. For instance, whether it be a neighbourhood pujo or pujo in wealthier circles, the propensity to swipe the kosha mangsho first persists. After finishing the lunch-aloo dum, maachh, mangsho with pulao and mishti, a bhat-ghum (afternoon siesta) is typically taken.
A pujo thali typically includes luchi, aloor dum, shukto, chop-cutlets, bhaat, dal, bhaja, shobji, pulao, maachh, mangsho, chatni, papad, and mishti for the uninitiated. Bengali food is consumed in courses, just like French cuisine.
