Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport is undergoing a significant expansion. This expansion will accommodate 20 lakh additional passengers per annum. The ongoing project will add over 71,000 sq ft to the integrated terminal, with most of the new space allocated to the international wing. The revamped terminal will increase capacity from 2.6 crore to 2.8 crore passengers per annum.
Kolkata Airport To Undergo Major Expansion
The expansion of the Kolkata Airport terminal is expected to be completed by December 2025. This is set to significantly enhance the passenger experience. The project will add over 71,000 sq ft of space across the departure and arrival levels, of which three-quarters will be dedicated to the international wing. With this addition, the airport’s total passenger handling capacity will increase to 2.8 crore annually, up from the current 2.6 crore.

The airport authorities aim to improve passenger amenities. This includes revamping the terminal layout and relocating the Immigration and customs area within the international departure zone. The plan also includes the renovation of all 80 toilets at the airport, with 60 located in the departure area and 20 in the arrival area. The makeover is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Enhanced Amenities For International Travellers
The Kolkata Airport expansion project prioritises international passengers by adding more space to the international wing. The reorganisation of the departure area will facilitate smoother immigration and customs procedures. Passengers can also look forward to improved amenities, including renovated toilets and upgraded waiting areas.
