West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced on June 3, 2021, that restaurants in the state can start operating between 5 PM and 8 PM amid the COVID-19 lockdown. However, to start operations, all the restaurant staff need to be vaccinated and the restaurants must also follow the COVID-19 protocols. The CM has taken this step to assist the restaurant industry to survive amid the trying times. According to an India Today report, the CM has said, “We are not in favour of shutting down the business. But at the same time, we must try and control the disease so that we don’t have to face another wave.” She has also highlighted the need to give importance to food delivery. Additionally, she has allowed retail shops to operate from noon to 3 PM.
Kolkata Launches Vaccine Bus To Inoculate Priority Groups In Markets
Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has launched a bus that will travel to the markets to vaccinate priority groups, including vegetable and fish sellers, grocery retailers, etc. KMC has started the ‘vaccination on wheels’ campaign by cooperating with the Health and Transport departments of the West Bengal government. A vaccination bus has started operating in Kolkata to inoculate people who cannot go to vaccination centres for hours, leaving their essential businesses. The Inauguration Of The Campaign Took Place At Kolkata’s Posta Bazaar
The inauguration of the campaign took place at Posta Bazaar, which is known as the largest wholesale market for groceries and vegetables in Kolkata. Hakim said more buses will be used for the vaccination purpose soon. He stated, “There are several buses available and using these, we can vaccinate the people at the markets itself.” This initiative will come to the aid of a large number of city people in the priority groups.
