Kolkata Metro is one of the most well-connected public transport systems in India. It recently got the country’s first underwater metro. Now it is poised to improve the connectivity of the city. The construction of the Underground Victoria metro station has commenced. Authorities have conducted all the tests required to begin the construction of the station. Here are all of the other important updates that you would need to know about Kolkata Metro.

Kolkata Metro Updates: Underground Victoria Metro Station

According to an article which was recently published by the Financial Express or FE, the construction of the underground Victoria metro station has commenced. As per Kaushik Mitra, who is a Metro Railway spokesperson cited in the FE article, the construction of the station will be done by RVNL.

RVNL is Rail Vikas Nigam Limited which is an executing agency. Mitra also went on to mention that the barricading work in the construction area is complete. Barricading is crucial to secure the area which is about to go under construction.

Other preparatory works in addition to barricading are also complete. The D-Walls, which are Diaphragm walls, will be erected first. Then, the construction station slabs will be done employing the cut-and-cover top-down method.

Other Important Updates About This Metro Network

In addition to this, the Joka-Majerhat stretch of the Joka-Esplanade corridor is now operational. The construction work on the Mominpur-Esplanade stretch, on the other hand, is still underway. The authorities of Metro Railway have conducted a vibration impact study.

This was done with the aim of evaluating the potential vibration levels during construction as well as operational phases. In addition to this, a health survey of the Victoria Memorial Hall has also been completed.

In order to mitigate pollution, experts from IIT-Guwahati have been summoned to review the design of the station. Around 29 trees will be transplanted to make way for the station.
