Uber speeds up India’s electric mobility journey by launching its global EV service, Uber Green, in Kolkata. Residents can now book eco-friendly rides with just a few taps on their Uber app.

This expansion marks Uber Green’s presence in four Indian cities, offering riders a sustainable transportation option at their fingertips. Whether you’re commuting across town or heading to the Kolkata International Airport, Uber Green provides a greener way to travel.

Shri Snehasis Chakraborty, West Bengal’s Transport Minister, applauded Uber Green’s launch in a statement to SMEStreet. He believes it’s a major step towards cleaner air for Kolkata and supports the city’s goals for a more eco-friendly transportation system.

Zero-Emissions Mobility Platform

Uber’s India president, Prabhjeet Singh, emphasised their commitment to electric vehicles. He’s excited to launch Uber Green in Kolkata, making their eco-friendly rides available to more people. Similar to the success in other cities, this expansion shows Uber’s dedication to offering both convenience and sustainability in transportation. As they reach more Indian cities, they aim to make electric vehicle rides accessible across the country.

Uber aims to be a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2030 in Europe and North America, with a global target of 2040. EV drivers on Uber are leading the charge, transitioning to electric vehicles at five times the rate of the general public. This translates to up to four times the emissions benefit compared to regular drivers, highlighting the ridesharing industry’s potential to accelerate electrification. Uber’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets have also been approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative, making them one of the first 30 US companies to achieve this distinction.

Booking your Uber Green ride is simple and convenient. Here’s how you can do that:

• Open your Uber app and enter your desired destination as usual.
• Look for the “Uber Green” option at the bottom of your screen and select it.
• Before confirming, you’ll have a chance to review the trip details, including the fare.
• Once everything looks good, simply tap “Confirm Green” and get ready for your eco-friendly journey!
