Kolkata’s Travel Agents Call For Direct Flights Between Kolkata And Istanbul

Turkey welcomes thousands and lakhs of visitors from different parts of the world and many travel enthusiasts from India often plan holidays to explore this country. Being a bustling famous tourist city for visitors, Istanbul needs to be well connected by air routes with different places so that travellers can travel smoothly. Recently, some travel agents in Kolkata asked for direct flight operations between the City of Joy and the city in Turkey.

Direct Flights Are In Demand!

More than 600 visitors from the eastern part of India head to Turkey every month, showing the demand for visiting the country in the Middle East. Understanding the rise in travel demand among tourists, some travel agents in Kolkata have requested Turkish Airlines and IndiGo to initiate direct flight services connecting Kolkata and Istanbul, according to a report by The Times of India.

Kolkata witnessed the tourism roadshow on January 31 held by Turkey Tourism. Onur Gozet, Deputy General Director of Promotion, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, was present at this grand event on Wednesday. He talked about his wishes to work on this subject and expedite the process for IndiGo and Turkish Airlines to launch direct flights soon.

Turkey has emerged to be a popular destination among international travellers. In 2023, about 5.6 crore tourists visited Turkey and about 2.7 of them were from India. Last year’s travel data showed a significant growth in welcoming visitors in comparison to 2022. The overall number of overseas travellers was 10 per cent more than 2022 and the number of Indian visitors travelling to Turkey increased by 18 per cent.

How To Travel To Istanbul From India?

There are direct flights to Istanbul from only a few places in India. To board the flight and land directly in Istanbul, travellers can catch flights operated by IndiGo and Turkish Airlines from Delhi and Mumbai. These daily flights have the capacity to carry about 2,000 passengers each day. Reports state that the tourism authority of Turkey is willing to work on enhancing flight routes and connections with India.
