There are two types of travellers; one who doesn’t like to eat much and another who cannot stop munching en route. Well, no matter if we like eating on a flight or not, we have no other option than to eat whatever we have on long-haul journeys. If you are a fan of instant noodles, we have sad news for you. Korean Air will stop serving instant hot cup noodles on some of the selected flights in its network.

Here’s Why Korean Air Will Not Serve Cup Noodles In Economy Class

The airline will stop serving these famous noodles to passengers travelling in economy class on overseas flights, according to a report by WION. This change will come into action on August 15, 2024. Two of the most significant reasons behind the cup noodles ban by Korean Air are turbulence and some flyers suffering from burns due to hot water poured for instant noodles.

Another reason causing the decision to stop serving instant noodles is the narrow aisles in economy class. These cups are served to passengers for free whenever they ask for them on international journeys. Unfortunately, incidents of turbulence have increased in the past few years. This also raised the risk of hot water spilling and leading to severe burns. To resolve all these issues at once, Korean Air issued a statement stating their decision to stop serving cup noodles.

Though economy passengers will soon not be able to relish these noodles, the airline will serve these to travellers in business class and first class. The cabin crew serves noodles to these passengers individually. Therefore, the risk of hot water getting spilled during turbulence is less in comparison to economy class.

Though Korean Air’s economy class passengers will not get cup noodles for free from August 15, the airline made new arrangements for everyone. The airline’s statement specified that corndogs, hot pockets, pizza, and sandwiches will replace noodles on international flights.

This announcement started a debate on social media. While many support the airline’s decisions, others are not convinced.
