Want to get rid of the polluted air and take in fresh, soothing air? You must travel to Ladakh or Arunachal Pradesh then. The Air Quality Life Index (AQLI) of the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC) has revealed that Ladakh has the cleanest air in India, followed by Arunachal Pradesh, Kerala, Andaman & Nicobar, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Nagaland, Karanataka and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. But India as a whole doesn’t stand in a good position in terms of air pollution levels. Read on to know why.

India Second Most Polluted Country In The World
While air is found to be cleaner in Ladakh than in other parts of India, the country stands at one of the worst positions in the world in terms of air pollution. India is found to be the second most polluted country in the world after Bangladesh. The report has also stated that India’s life expectancy might be curtailed by 5 years if the pollution level continues to grow. India is followed by Nepal, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Uttar Pradesh Found To Be Most Polluted Indian State
The report has found that Uttar Pradesh is the most polluted state in India, followed by Bihar, Haryana and Tripura. Delhi has been found to be one of the most polluted regions in the country. According to a Hindustan Times report, AQLI Director Christa Hasenkopf has called air pollution a ‘stubborn problem’ and said that strong and continuous initiatives are needed to solve the issue.
