Landslide Hits Maharashtra’s Raigad; 5 Killed, 48 Families Affected, CM Shinde Visits The Site

On Thursday morning, a landslide hit Raigad district in Maharashtra. About 48 families have been badly affected because of this unfortunate occurrence. At least five people have lost their lives, and several are trapped inside the debris. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams reached the site in no time and began operations. Maharashtra’s Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, too, has reached the spot. 

Landslide Hits Maharashtra’s Raigad District

A landslide hit Irshalwadi village in Khalapur tehsil of Raigad district in Maharashtra early this morning. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached the spot as soon as they were informed about the incident. 

The teams immediately launched a search and rescue operation. The landslide has affected 48 families in the tribal village. They have by far rescued about 75 people from the debris, and many more are feared to be trapped. 

About 100 Police and District administration officials have also joined the operations. Even locals and some NGOs have stepped forward to help. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, also reached the site to check on the rescue operation being carried out.

CM Announces Free Treatment And Ex Gratia

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, reached the emergency control room in Mumbai to keep a check on the rescue operation. Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed sorrow and also offered condolences to the victims and their families. 

More teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been summoned and will be reaching them soon. Many trekkers also offered help in the rescue operations. It is feared that about 22 people are still stuck in the debris. 

This landslide is termed the biggest in the state after the one that took place in 2014 in Ambegaon tehsil in Pune. 

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced ₹5 Lakh to the next of kin of the people killed in the landslide. The ones who have been injured will be given free treatment.
