Now, we’re introducing a brand-new show that celebrates Indians who have built a global identity and made the nation proud—Indians Abroad. In the first episode, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani meets Mr Anil Agarwal, Founder of the Vedanta Group, at his London home for a candid conversation about his journey, Indian roots, spirituality, cultural values, and much more. Here’s how it went down.

Disclaimer: This episode of Indians Abroad was shot in London prior to the unfortunate demise of Mr. Agnivesh Agarwal, beloved son of Mr. Anil Agarwal. May his soul rest in peace.

Inside Anil Agarwal’s London Home

Now settled in London, Mr Anil Agarwal is the world’s fourth-richest NRI, and his journey is truly inspiring. What began with trading scrap metal went on to build a global empire worth over ₹2,00,000 crore, employing more than 200,000 people worldwide.

But it’s not just his wealth but his Indian roots, spirituality, and cultural values that truly define him. In London, he has helped build Hindu schools, sattvic restaurants, Ayurvedic wellness centres, and heritage spaces, keeping Indian culture alive even abroad. “Humara jo fundamental DNA hai, woh toh Indian hi hai and usse main kabhi sharmata nahi hun,” he proudly announced.

Mrs Kiran Agarwal, his wife, added, “Basically, dil se yeah desi hi hai. Woh bolte hai na, apne roots aap mat bhulo, apni cheeze, apne culture, sab sath leke chatle hain and logo ko bhi wahi sekhate hai.”

Naturally, we asked him about his food preferences and whether he sticks only to Indian cuisine. He happily shared that he enjoys trying all kinds of food. In fact, he gets excited about new restaurant openings and even mentioned that he was planning to visit a nearby carnival to sip on some mulled wine.

Importance Of Women’s Support In His Life

Over a meal at their beautiful Mayfair residence, Mr Anil Agarwal and Ms Kiran Agarwal reflected on their move to London in 1996 and shared how her home-cooked meals played a role in helping Mr Agarwal secure several deals during his early days.

The couple also spoke about their arranged marriage and how Mr Agarwal was keen to marry early during his days in Mumbai. His reasons were simple—ghar ka khana and companionship. Sharing an anecdote, Mrs Agarwal said, “Even today, he tells youngsters that once your studies are done and you’ve been working for a while, it’s time to get married. The support of a woman in life is very important. He believes a woman is like Lakshmi ka roop and helps you grow tenfold, that’s always been his belief.”
