Located on the east coast, it will have thousands of hotel rooms as well as a white sand beach. The beach stretches across 5.5 kilometres. If reports are to go by, a few Russian tourists were given a preview of the resort.

The TOI article also mentions that owing to North Korea’s stringent policies, it is possible that tourists from foreign countries will be accompanied by escorts at all times. What is more, it is also likely that tourists may not be allowed to leave their rooms without their escorts.

The development of this city began in 2018. However, owing to the global pandemic, it came to a complete standstill in 2020. The following year, the development resumed and on his latest visit, the leader announced that the construction was in its final phase.

He also emphasised the importance of having good service as well as a leisure-oriented tourist spot. It is hoped that once Wonsan-Kalma opens up, it will be one of the premier tourist destinations in the world.
