According to an article which was recently published by TimeOut Sydney, the refurbishment of this station will cost around $2.3 million. The revamping is much needed as this station is quite unusual. The station will get better signage, a family toilet, better lighting, CCTV cameras, parking spaces and more.

As per the TimeOut article, the railway station has a confusing name. Among its other peculiar features is a payphone that is only accessible by stairs. But that’s not the peculiar part, the peculiar part is that it’s ironically labelled wheelchair accessible.

The refurbishment will be funded from the $800 million that the NSW government has allocated for The Safe and Accessible Transport Program. The programme has accessibility as its focal point and will build more ramps and lifts.

Macdonaldtown has a dark past. Trigger warning: if you’re sensitive to child abuse, you probably should not continue. If reports are to go by, a couple –John and Sarah Makin – lived here who posed as baby farmers – an ancient occupation where custody of illegitimate children was given to a buyer.

It soon came to light that the couple murdered the infants they bought and buried them in their yard. As many as 15 corpses of infants were found buried in the yard. The couple was caught and the husband was hanged while the wife received imprisonment.
