There’s an ambitious new infrastructure project coming up in Mumbai in addition to the multiple infrastructure projects already underway. This new project will connect Mumbai’s Versova area to the famous Madh Island. This particular project has been in the pipeline for nearly a decade and it finally received the one last green light required from the authorities to begin the work once and for all. This particular project will help travel from Madh Island to Versova in just 10 minutes.
Madh Island To Versova In 10 Minutes
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC has finally received a go-ahead on the new cable-stayed bridge that will come up connecting Madh Island to Versova. The authorities have been trying to construct this bridge for a decade, however, they hadn’t received all the permissions required to start the construction.
The Mumbai Coastal Zone Management Authority or MCZMA finally gave the BMC a go-ahead on the Madh Island-Versova Bridge. Even though the bridge has been in the pipeline for a decade, it was only in 2020 that the blueprint of the bridge was made.
This brand-new bridge will be 27.5 m in width and 1.5 km in length. Additionally, the bridge will have a total of four lanes, two in each direction. Since the old route involved taking the Western Express Highway (WEH) or the SV Road, the time it took to travel between the two points was somewhere between 45 minutes and 90 minutes. However, because of this new bridge, the time taken to travel between the two will be reduced to 7 to 10 minutes.

Why It Took So Long For The BMC To Get Approval
The BMC faced a lot of obstacles in getting permission to build this project. One of the main reasons why the project wasn’t approved was that the MCZMA had asked for a change in the alignment of the bridge. This was because the MCZMA wanted minimal damage to the mangrove forest close to where the bridge will soon be.
Furthermore, there were also concerns raised by the local fishing community since the bridge would take up the space that is generally used to park the fishing boats. The new plan was finally agreed upon by the fisherfolk and thus, the MCZMA gave its green light to build the project.
