Maha Govt Renames Versova-Bandra Sea Link As Veer Savarkar Setu While MTHL Is…

Mumbai is undergoing a vast renovation with the Coastal Road project. Under this project, the authorities are building two big bridges — Versova-Bandra Sea Link and Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. They are both a part of the Coastal Road project and will be responsible for connecting Mumbai and its important routes. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that both bridges have been renamed. Here is what the routes will be called henceforth.

The Versova-Bandra Sea Link is an under-construction bridge that will connect Versova, a part of Andheri, with the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Its main purpose is to reduce traffic and congestion on the Western Express Highway and the Western Line of the Mumbai Local Rail Route. CM Eknath Shinde recently renamed this bridge ‘Veer Savarkar Setu’.

The Coastal Road, which connects Marine Lines with Kandivali, includes the 17.17 km long Versova-Bandra Sea Link as part of its route. It links Nana Nani Park in Versova with the Bandra end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Four entry and exit points are provided by the interchanges with Carter Road and Juhu.

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is Renamed As Well

The 21.8 km long, 6-lane, access-controlled Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is currently under construction. It will link Navi Mumbai and will be India’s longest sea bridge when it is finished. The bridge would start in Sewri in South Mumbai and cross Thane Creek to the north of Elephanta Island. Further, it will conclude in Chirle close to Nhava Sheva.

In addition to renaming the Versova-Bandra Sea Link, CM Eknath Shinde has renamed this expressway as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Smruti Nhava Sheva Atal Setu. The route will have connections to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the east and the Coastal route, in the west. The 27-metre-wide, 6-lane roadway will also have two emergency exit lanes, an edge strip, and a collision barrier.
