Infrastructural development is kind of a double-edged sword if you really think about it. On the one hand, it purports to make the lives of people easier, but on the other hand, it causes a huge amount of ecological disruption. Keeping this in mind, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited or the MMRCL has constructed a mini forest called “Little Woods” near the Vasudev Nagar Metro Station in Nagpur. It is primarily an environmental-friendly initiative by te Maha Metro.
Maha-Metro Creates “Little Woods” Forest In Nagpur
This initiative is taken in order to preserve the environmental and ecological integrity of the region. Since many trees had to be cut down in order to build the station, the MMRCL decided to create this “Little Forest.” It is situated on the banks of Ambazari Lake.
According to an article by The Live Nagpur, for every tree that was cut down to build the metro, MMRCL is planting 15 trees. They have also developed The Little Woods Extension which is situated on the Amravati road.
The project has received a lot of appreciation from the locals, especially the elderly. It is one of the places where people can pass the time, enjoy the fresh air, do yoga or exercise. During the morning and the evening, many elderly people can be seen walking around the place.

Houses Peacocks As Well As Other Birds
Since its establishment, there has been a considerable increase in biodiversity in the forest. The woods house a number of peacocks which please the passersby. A plethora of bird species have also been spotted in the woods.
According to The Live Nagpur article, a bunch of Siberian birds were also spotted in the Little Wood. Furthermore, a leopard, too, was found prowling about last year in the area. It seems pretty clear that the place has become an attraction for wildlife and humans alike.
It aims to undo some of the damage done to the native ecological systems by the construction of the Metro railway.
