Mahalaxmi Saras Exhibition by Umed Abhiyan supports the underprivileged women of Maharashtra. The exhibition which started on February 11 will be held till February 23. The MMRDA Grounds in BKC will be home to the biggest food and cultural fair in the city. There are more than 500 stalls selling food products, home decor items, handicrafts, artefacts, kitchenware, sarees, footwear and so much more. There’s also a food court serving hundreds of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies. 

What Is The Mahalaxmi Saras Exhibition?

At the centre of Mahalaxmi Saras are the self-help groups, primarily involving women from outlying areas. From elaborate textiles to exquisitely crafted wooden objects, every display showcases custom, expertise, and commitment. As visitors explore the stalls, they get the opportunity to interact with the artists and farmers and acquire insights into their practices, traditions and objectives. This intimate relationship deepens the experience and turns shopping into a quest to understand and value the human spirit.

The exhibition gives city folk in Mumbai the opportunity to try the delicious rural food of the state. The stalls in the food court are sure to take you on a beautiful culinary journey. It will leave you smacking your lips! Feast on traditional dishes of Maharashtra like Tambda Rassa From Kolhapur, Phalian Chutney from Solapur or Konkan’s classic rice and fish.

Umed Abhiyan: Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Mission

The Central Government launched the National Rural Livelihoods Upliftment Mission in the year 2011. The aim was to eradicate poverty in the rural areas of the state. An independent organisation was formed to implement this mission in the state of Maharashtra. Maharashtra State Rural Livelihoods Upliftment Mission has been established under the Societies Registration Act, of 1860. Under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister and under the Rural Development Department. The mission is implemented in 34 districts and 351 talukas. 

The campaign aims to lift 71 lakh poor families in Maharashtra out of poverty through sustainable livelihoods. It is implementing innovative and effective methods in the state to achieve this goal. Community organizing, the creation of strong community-level institutions, various pilot projects and partnerships with voluntary and government as well as private organisations are some such activities.
