Maharashtra Budget 2023: What Is Lek Ladki Scheme? Here’s Everything You Need To Know

State Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday announced the Maharashtra Budget 2023–24. The budget included many new schemes as well as reviving some old ones. It also included many important schemes with the purpose of empowering women. Among all this, he also announced the launch of a new scheme, Lek Ladki. What is this scheme? What more women centric schemes or announcements were launched in the Maharashtra Budget 2023? Here you go!

Maharashtra Budget 2023: Lek Ladki Scheme

Under the newly launched Lek Ladki scheme, the state government will be giving benefits to the girls born in families that hold yellow and orange ration cards. When a girl is born in one of these families, ₹5,000 will be deposited in her name. ₹4,000 when she will get admission into Class 1, ₹6,000 when in Class 6, ₹8,000 when in Class 8, and ₹75,000 on the completion of 18 years of age.

Other Important Announcements For Women

Here are some more women centric announcements made in the Maharashtra Budget 2023.

1. All the women travelling by state-run buses will have to pay only 50% of the ticket fares, irrespective of their age.

2. Concession of 1% will be provided to women purchasing residential property, and the rule of not selling the property to any male buyer for 15 years will also be relaxed.

3. Women who are earning ₹25,000 every month will no longer have to pay professional tax. 

4. Under Mata Surakshit Tar Ghar Surakshit Abhiyan, about four crore girls and women will be provided medication and health checkups. 

5. Speaking of the 37 lakh rural women who gained employment with self-help groups, Kolhapur chappal clusters and Latur bamboo clusters in the district will develop similar self-help groups. 

6. The Central Government’s scheme for Unity Mall will be implemented in Mumbai to help women from self-help groups to sell wares.

7. A new Shakti Sadan scheme will have two ongoing schemes; Swadhar and Ujwala, merged under it. About 50 Shakti Sadans will be set up where distressed women, victims of sexual exploitation and domestic violence will be given shelter, legal assistance, and counselling. 

8. The honorarium for Anganwadi workers will be increased to ₹10,000 and for mini Anganwadi workers, it will be increased to ₹7,200. 

9. Fadnavis has promised to fill 20,000 vacant posts for Anganwadi workers. 

10. The honoraria for Asha Pravartaka and the promoter will be increased to ₹1,500 each.

11. A new women-centric tourism policy will also be announced soon to ensure safe and convenient travel for women. 

12. For women working in urban areas, 50 hostels will be constructed soon.
