Maharashtra Govt Is Considering The Option Of Home Delivery Of Alcohol

According to a Times Of India report, the Maharashtra Govt may soon allow door-to-door delivery of alcohol through e-commerce companies. As per the report, several e-commerce companies, including Zomato, have approached the State’s excise department to see if tie-ups with local alcohol retailers can take place for home delivery of alcohol.

While state officials are wary of compromise in alcohol quality and excess delivery charges through e-commerce companies, they are looking to frame rules in such a way that home delivery of alcohol takes place without any impediments, while ensuring that only authentic brands reach the consumer without excess delivery charges.

Under excise rules, consumers will have to give age and residential proof while placing orders. They will also require a permit, which can be bought online.

If all goes well, Maharashtra will be the fourth state to deliver alcohol online after West Bengal, Punjab, and Chhattisgarh.

E-Token Sale Of Liquor In Pune And Nashik On Pilot Basis

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Govt has launched an e-token system for sale of alcohol in Pune and Nashik on a pilot basis. An app has been developed by the association of wholesalers in Pune and Nashik for this purpose.

Under the system, customers can place an order on the app with a nearby alcohol retailer. They will then be given a specific time slot for collecting the alcohol, thereby significantly cutting down on the wait time as well queues at the stores.
