Maharashtra: New 6-Lane Bridge To Link Thane And Bhiwandi; To Cut Travel Time To 7 Mins

Maharashtra’s infrastructure is set to get a major boost! A new bridge connecting Thane and Bhiwandi that promises to cut travel time drastically, from the current 45 minutes to just a 7-minute commute. This new bridge will be constructed across the Vasai creek and link Kolshet in Thane with Kalher in Bhiwandi. Scroll on for more details.

Thane Bhiwandi Bridge To Make Travel Seamless

According to Hindustan Times, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has confirmed that it plans to build a six-lane bridge to connect Kolshet in Thane with Kalher in Bhiwandi. The 2.2-km bridge will have six lanes and will significantly cut down travel time between the two suburbs.

Reports suggest that the new bridge will cut travel time from roughly 45 minutes to just 5 to 7 minutes, which will be a massive upgrade for daily commuters. The MMRDA aims to complete the project within three years. Once ready, the bridge will offer a major boost to connectivity with Bhiwandi, an important industrial hub that’s also set to get a station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor. Known for its powerloom and logistics industries, Bhiwandi has seen a surge in traffic toward Thane and Mumbai in recent years, making this new link more crucial than ever.

All You Need To Know About This Project

The upcoming Thane–Bhiwandi bridge will directly connect Kolshet and Kalher. At present, commuters are forced to take a long detour via Balkum Naka and the old Kasheli bridge, making travel inefficient and time-consuming. This not only slows down daily movement but also affects the growth of Bhiwandi’s textile industry, which relies heavily on smooth transportation routes. As per the MMRDA spokesperson, to reduce traffic and support growth in the textile sector, the Kolshet–Kalher bridge needs to be built as soon as possible.
