While there were no resident tigers in the reserve before 2022, the population has increased from zero to three in the last four years. It seems that these have probably migrated from Karnataka or Goa. And, wildlife lovers and conservationists are helping to strengthen the emotional bond between the locals and tigers. With the names inspired by the ranks of warriors from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s army, the officials, though, identify them by codes.
Officials Know Them By Their Codes
Tiger STR-T1 has been named Senapati, STR-T2 is called Subedar and STR-T3 is called Baji. Located in Western Maharashtra, this reserve spans across Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli. Protecting not just tigers, but the entire biodiversity of the region, it is truly an important part of the corridor, which connects Tilari, Chandoli, Koyna, Radha Nagari, and Kali Tiger reserves in Karnataka.
As per the report, it was mentioned that right now, there are plans to relocate a tigeress from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Vidarbha for the successful conservation of the tiger population and the overall system of tigers in the project area. Do let your buddies know about this development from the tiger reserve.
