Major Fire Breaks Out At A Housing Society In Mumbai’s Vidyavihar; 1 Killed & Several Injured

In the early hours of Monday, March 24, a major fire broke out at a 13-storey high housing society in Vidyavihar West, Mumbai. Besides causing major property damage, the blaze claimed one life and left several people injured. The fire was reported at around 4:35 AM, and here’s all you need to know about it.

1 Killed In Fire At Housing Society In Mumbai’s Vidyavihar

According to Hindustan Times, a massive fire broke out at a multi-storey building of Takshshila Co-operative Housing Society in Neelkanth Kingdom Complex in Vidyavihar, Mumbai on Monday. Mumbai Fire Brigade firefighters rushed to the residential area and battled the flames for nearly three hours. They classified it as a Level-II fire and were able to bring the situation under control by 7:33 AM.

One security guard died because of the fire and several were reported injured. The deceased suffered 100 per cent burn injuries. He was rushed to the nearby Rajawadi Hospital and was declared dead there. Another security guard suffered 25 to 30 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Fire Contained After Hours Of Effort

As per reports, the fire was confined to electric wiring, installations, household items, wooden furniture, an AC unit and clothes in five flats located on the first and second floors of the multi-storey housing society in Mumbai’s Vidyavihar. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. The authorities are investigating to establish whether the fire erupted due to an electrical short circuit or other reasons.

On Friday night, another fire incident was reported at a polymer factory at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation’s Shirvane area in Navi Mumbai. While no casualties were reported, authorities noted severe damage to machines and materials stored on the premises. The fire spread quickly due to the highly flammable chemicals present in the factory.
