As per the recent report, Lucknow International airport has stopped all night flights for four months. Here are the details of why the runway is closed.

The runway at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport is undergoing an upgradation. Therefore, they have issued a notice of stopping all night flights for four months. This will be from the 23rd of February to the 11th of July, 2023 and between 9:30 pm to 6:00 am. According to the airport authorities, they have informed airlines about the non-availability hours of their runway. Further, they have given some details of what will be included in the new runway. Many new facilities will be introduced in the new runway, like aircraft turn pad expansion, three new link taxiways, a runway end safety area, and ground lights for aircraft operations. Moreover, the runway end safety area will be made from sand.

Construction And Clearance

The airport has received clearance from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change for expanding the runway. Further, this will increase their passenger handling capacity to thirty-nine million per annum passengers while cargo capacity will increase to 0.25 million tonnes per annum. Moreover, the total area of this land is 1258.80 acres and is one of the most land-constrained airports in India.

As for its construction, The Adani Group is undertaking this upgradation work for Lucknow International Airport under the public-private partnership. They have invested an estimated amount of ₹10,700 crore. Also, it was the same firm that was awarded the rights to develop, operate and manage this airport in 2019.
