Malavika Mohanan while shooting for a film in Hyderabad found time out of her busy schedule to spend time at her home in Mumbai. The actress graciously invited our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani for a Sunday Brunch at her home where a lavish spread of coastal delicacies from Kerala was laid out on the table. The actress revealed interesting things about her which our fans lapped up.
Malavika Mohanan Is Multilingual
During the Sunday Brunch, Kamiya asked Malavika Mohanan which languages was she fluent in. She replied “English, Hindi, Malayalam (her mother tongue) and a little bit of Marathi” as well. However, she admitted that she speaks in Bambaiya Hindi as she was brought up in Mumbai. Malavika remembers shooting for Yudhra with Siddhant Chaturvedi where the director hired a dialect coach for her to speak in clean Hindi.
While she needs to speak shudh Hindi with the right nuktas in Hindi films, she prefers her Bambaiya Hindi in her everyday life. When Kamiya asked her how she could speak Marathi, Malavika revealed she studied in a state-syllabus school where she had Marathi as part of the curriculum. “For some reason I love Marathi,” quipped the actress. Malavika interacted with Kamiya in Marathi.

She Taught Kamiya To Speak A Few Words In Malayalam
And taught her to say, “I really love this food” in Malayalam. Like a good student, Kamiya learnt the sentence in Malayalam. Our Editor-in-Chief was wondering what “bhayankara” meant in Malayalam and mistook it to have the same meaning as the word in Hindi. Laughingly, Malavika cleared her confusion and said it meant “really” in Malayalam. Malavika is a multilingual who is well versed in Hindi, English, Malayalam and Marathi as well.
At her gorgeous home in Andheri, Mumbai, Kamiya spoke to Malavika about her experiences in Bollywood and the South film industry. The duo had a lavish Malayali feast. It featured dishes like Appam, Meen Curry cooked in a chetti or earthen pot, Nadan Kozhi Curry and more. The warm traditional Kerala decor at her home made it an intriguing space for Kamiya.
