This heritage cuisine will likely be recognised by UNESCO. According to the reports, in March 2023, the Italian government announced that they were going to nominate its cuisine as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage element.

As per the nomination documents, the cuisine is responsible for shaping bio-cultural diversity. Additionally, this cuisine is a set of social practices and rites. It is a way to carry forward the tradition based on local knowledge.

In 2017, UNESCO added Neapolitan-style pizza making to the list of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In fact, this art was stated as a cultural practice and expression of intangible heritage. However, the decision won’t be made till December 2025!

Unbeknown to a majority of people, the main character of Italian cuisine is its simplicity. Due to the use of fewer ingredients, the cuisine is dependent on the quality of the ingredients used. Cold cuts, wine, cheese, espresso and fish are at the centre of Italian food. Though pizza and pasta are popular dishes, there are others that you might want to try! Some of them include lasagna, risotto, carbonara, focaccia, gelato, tiramisu, polenta, ribollita and more!

Today, this cuisine is a household name with different variations. However, the taste of these authentic dishes can surpass any of the fusion ones!
