What will be your reaction if you’ve booked a room online, only to find that it is actually under construction when you arrive? You’ll be furious, for sure and that’s exactly what an X user (formerly Twitter) felt recently. Amit Chansikar booked a room in Bengaluru, only to find that the property is still under construction. He took to X to express his disappointment with MakeMyTrip and OYO. Both platforms apologised for the inconvenience and took action to process a refund.

Man Books Room On MMT, Finds It Under Renovation; Calls It A ‘Scam’

Amit Chansikar booked a room in an OYO property via MakeMyTrip in Bengaluru for two nights. Upon arrival, he found out that the property is actually under renovation. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news and called it a ‘scam’ by MakeMyTrip and OYO. He shared pictures of the property and you can see wooden frames and other construction equipment littered around the premises.

He also mentioned in the captions that “there was not a living soul” around the property. He attached a booking confirmation receipt from MakeMyTrip and said he wasted two hours getting in touch with both platforms and trying to solve the issue with no concrete answer right away. He called out the ‘scam’ and ‘cheating’ he faced by both the platforms.

Seeing the now-viral post, the official X (formerly Twitter) handle of MakeMyTrip and OYO rooms reacted. They issued an apology and said they’ll look into the matter at the earliest. As per the latest update, Amit received a refund of ₹3,141, which was more than the booking amount of ₹3,060.

In a follow-up tweet, Amit made some solid points about the whole ordeal not being about the refund but the inconvenience caused. He pointed out what if he reached the property at night and saw its current state. He further pointed out what if a lady had made the booking it could have been a major safety issue for her.

We couldn’t agree with Amit more! Such callous mistakes by such big platforms are quite concerning. It raises some serious safety concerns that we hope these platforms avoid in the future.
