Witnessing snowfall in Himachal Pradesh is something we all want to experience once in a lifetime. However, when the weather takes an unexpected turn, this experience can be very harrowing. On Monday, heavy snowfall in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali left more than 1000 vehicles stranded between Solang and Atal Tunnel, Rohtang. After almost 12 hours of rescue operations, almost 700 tourists were safely evacuated. Efforts to free the remaining vehicles are underway.

Thousands of tourists heading to enjoy the snowy weather of Manali were left stranded on their way on Monday. A fresh spell of heavy snowfall turned what would have been picturesque landscapes into hours-long traffic jams. According to The Economic Times, about 1000 vehicles were struck between Solang and Atal Tunnel and this caused significant disruption and a logistical challenge for the authorities.

The heavy influx of tourists for Christmas and New Year celebrations in Manali has worsened the traffic situation. Many visuals surfacing online show long queues of cars standing on snow-covered roads as people wait for the traffic to move in freezing conditions.

Meanwhile, tourists were seen enjoying the fresh snowfall in Shimla. Draped in a white sheet of snow, the region received the second spell of snowfall on Monday. As per reports, many tourists even extended their stays to enjoy the snow and the charm of the famous tourist destination.

700+ Tourists Evacuated & Relocated

According to The Economic Times, around 700 tourists have been successfully evacuated from the snarling traffic caused by the snowstorm in Manali. After almost a 12-hour rescue operation by the Himachal Pradesh Police, these vehicles were relocated to safe locations.

Police personnel were seen helping the tourists navigate the challenging conditions. Efforts to rescue the remaining vehicle from the snowstorm-hit Manali road are currently underway. Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is clearing snow to restore road access.
