It’s good news for international travellers travelling from Mangaluru. In a recent turn of events, the long-pending demand of passengers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and neighbouring regions of Kerala, and the Non-Resident Indian community has been finally fulfilled. The flight operations from Mangaluru-Muscat are to resume from March 1st. Read on to know more about the development.

Mangaluru-Muscat To Resume Its Flight Operations

According to the Hindu, MP Brijesh Chowta announced that direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat are all set to resume from March 1. This came after the long-pending demand from commuters travelling from Mangaluru to Muscat.

MP Brijesh Chowta said in a statement that there had been strong demand to restart the direct flight services. A large number of people from the coastal region travel to Muscat for business purposes and employment opportunities. He also said he had written to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation requesting to resume the flight. Following this, Air India Express will resume the flight from March 1st.

As per the Vartha Bharti, Air India Express will now operate the flight that was suspended in July last year. The flight was suspended last year due to commercial reasons. The airline operating the route, Air India Express, discontinued the service because it was not considered commercially viable at the time. The decision came after thousands of people from the region requested direct flight connectivity between Mangaluru and Muscat.

What Will Be The Schedule Of The Mangaluru-Muscat Flight?

As per the current schedule, the flight will operate twice a week, on Tuesdays and Sundays. This direct service is expected to provide big relief to NRIs by providing them direct access to their hometown; it is also expected to reduce travel time.

The sudden suspension of the Mangaluru-Muscat direct flight last year led to serious inconvenience for thousands of passengers from the coastal belt settled in Muscat. People travelling to Mangaluru were forced to take connecting routes via Delhi, Mumbai and Kannur.
