What Is Mango Sticky Rice?

In Thailand, Mango Sticky Rice is a traditional dessert which is also known as Khao Niao Mamuang. It comprises freshly sliced mangoes, rich coconut milk and sticky rice as the primary ingredients. Together, they make a heavenly combo as it will surely leave your tastebuds tantalising! It is such a common and authentic street food in Thailand and almost every tourist indulges in this delish yet simple dessert. 

It all depends on how fresh and juicy the mangoes are! If you are travelling during the peak mango season in Thailand, April to May, then you will have the opportunity to indulge in sweet Nam Dok Mai or Ok Rong mangoes. But you may also enjoy this flavourful dish at home, follow the recipe given below.

Make It At Home With This Easy-Peasy Recipe

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. In a saucepan, add water and rice. Bring to a boil, cover and then simmer for about 15 to 20 minutes until water is completely absorbed by the rice.
  2. Next, combine 1 ½ cup of coconut milk, sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a pan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat.
  3. Mixture the above two products together and set it aside for an hour or so.
  4. To make the sauce, boil the remaining coconut milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, 1/4 of a teaspoon salt, and tapioca starch in a pan. Cook until thickened. 
  5. To plate Thailand’s mango sticky rice, take one serving of the sticky rice and arrange the mango slices on top. Then, pour the sauce over it, sprinkle sesame seeds and enjoy!
