Manoj Bajpayee: You’ll Be Patronised If You Don’t Speak Good English In Mumbai & In The Industry | Curly Tales

Standing at the present moment in this age, English is the most important language that everyone needs to know. Hailing from a village, our guest on this episode of Sunday Brunch & The Bombay Journey, Manoj Bajpayee, had to work hard for speaking fluent English. He shared his experiences of learning the language with Curly Tales Editor-In-Chief Kamiya Jani and Mashable India’s Siddharth Aalambayan. Read on to know his stories!

Manoj Bajpayee Learnt English By Self-Training!

Manoj Bajpayee worked a lot on himself to learn fluent English. He learned the language himself and practiced for years to speak properly. The actor shared how he used to talk with himself and an imaginary character in English and practiced in this way to get hold of English. He continued the practice even when simply walking somewhere alone. He shared that if you really want to do well in a big city, especially in this profession, you surely need to know how to speak in English else people will patronise you.

The Actor Also Had To Learn Hindi!

Manoj Bajpayee’s first language is Bhojpuri and when he came to Delhi, he had to focus a lot to speak proper Hindi. He was a student at Delhi University’s Ramjas College and also did theatre while studying. His teammates and everyone involved in theatre helped him to be fluent and improve his way of speaking Hindi. Also, his way of speaking had a lot of Bhojpuri touches so that was also a problem. Though he studied in a Hindi medium school, his pronunciation of the language is not good and hence he had to perfect his Hindi as well.

Be it in school, college, offices, roads, malls, or anywhere, you will see people communicating amongst themselves while speaking in English. Everyone must know at least some basics of this language so that they do not have to face any sort of communication issues when they are outside.
