Mark Rober Busts Some Popular Science Myths!

American YouTuber and engineer known for his popular videos revolving around science, Mark Rober, is popular for all the right reasons. And on this episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met with the famous personality at Imlee The Chaat Galli by Curly Tales. While the highlight of this episode was Mark Rober trying different Indian dishes for the first time and loving all of them, it was also about debunking some scientific myths.

Debunking Science Myths With Mark Rober

This episode was truly adventurous for Mark Rober, as he not only got to try a lot of Indian dishes but also took his spice tolerance on a test drive. The food session ended with Jalebi. While Mark loved the crispy sweet treat, he commented that “you Indians know how to fry things.”

No conversation with Mark Rober can be concluded without some scientific conversation, and we took this perfect opportunity for him to debunk some popular scientific myths. In this game of “myth or fact,” we gave him some statements, and he had to respond to them to reveal whether they are a myth or a fact.

First, we asked him if Earth was ever square-shaped, and he immediately responded that it’s a myth and that the Earth has always been a sphere. Next, we asked him if there is a side of the moon that’s dark. Calling that one a myth as well, he revealed that while there is a side of the moon that we do not see, it is in light just as often as the side we see.

Can we see the Great Wall of China from space? Debunking this myth as well, he revealed that it’s not that wide, and we would be able to see roads and rivers before we are able to see the Great Wall of China. Can we hear sound in space? Apparently not. Mark Rober revealed that sound is basically just air molecules bumping into each other, and in space, there are no air molecules. Next, we asked him if we would get weightless as soon as we leave Earth—and finally, there was one that was true.
