Due to continuous rain in the valley, a massive landslide took place in the Poonch district. The landslide happened near Panar Bridge on Mughal Road on Monday. This has halted all traffic movements on the road. The Mughal Road connects Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu and Shopian district in South Kashmir. Overall, it is an alternative route that connects Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Videos emerging online show huge stones and debris on the road. Fortunately, there has been no casualty in the whole incident. According to an NDTV report, the Public Works Department (PWD) has mobilised men and machinery to clear the debris from the road. They have ensured that the road will be reopened for vehicular movement soon. The authorities have also issued warnings to avoid travel in the area around the landslide in the meantime.

On June 30, a massive landslide blocked the Kishtwar region in Jammu and Kashmir after rainfall hit the area. The landslide ended up blocking the Kishtwar-Paddar Road and suspended all vehicular movement. Work to clear and restore the road is still underway.

As per a report in Kashmir Life, the authorities have mobilised more excavators to restore the landslide-hit Kishtwar-Paddar Road. This move was important because the supply of essential items has also been hit in the Paddar sub-division. They had opened an alternative road from Himachal Pradesh a few days ago but it was also disrupted due to a flash flood near the Singhrah Bridge.

We hope normalcy is restored in the valley soon and people are able to carry on with their lives as usual.
