Beware Of Falling! Massive ‘Gorge’ Comes Beneath Eiffel Tower In Paris

What if the Eiffel Tower was built on a ravine, rather than on the flat landscape of Paris? Well, those visiting Eiffel Tower over the next month will be able to see this scenario play out. So, here’s the thing. JR set up this optical illusion in front of the Eiffel Tower that starts with the pillars of the tower and leads on to a virtual ravine. The artwork placed on the Trocadero square in front of the Eiffel Tower seamlessly blends in with the tower. The optical illusion offers a fun yet a dangerous-looking site for visitors.

The Artwork In The Foreground Creates An Optical Illusion For Visitors

Visitors at Eiffel Tower are taking pictures of them falling into the ravine. The artwork involves, laying an image of a ravine and the pillars of the Eiffel Tower onto the floor of an esplanade. The artwork in the foreground and the tower in the background create an illusion when a visitor stands at the right spot.

The Artwork Is Made Using A Plastic Screen

JR’s ‘Trompe l’oeil’ artwork, meaning ‘Trick of the Eye’ in the French, was made using a plastic screen. Some of his previous installations across the world have a similar effect. In March, the artist created a black and white piece called ‘The Wound’ on the facade of the Palazzo Strozzi in Florence. Venice & Florence Get Ready To Welcome Tourists With New Tourism Model.
