Located just 18 km from Meerut, the Basilica of Our Lady of Graces in Sardhana was built in 1822 by Begum Samru after her conversion to Christianity. Inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and designed by Italian architect Antonio Reghellini, this church beautifully blends Indian, Italian and Palladian architecture. The highlight of the church includes its semi-precious stonework, Roman domes, and an 18-foot statue of Begum Samru smoking a hookah.
