GCC Updates
1. Hottest Summer Stretch Begins In Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has entered a period, which is known as Jamarat Al Qaydh. Traditionally, it is regarded as the most intense phase of the summer. As mentioned by Gulf News, temperatures tend to peak across the kingdom during this period. It generally begins mid-July and lasts until early August.
2. Flights Continue To Remain Affected Between UAE & Southern Saudi Arabia
Flights to and from Abha International Airport have been suspended for the fourth consecutive day on Friday, July 17th. Although most of the domestic schedule continues to operate, passengers who are travelling on the route between Dubai, Sharjah, and Abha have been asked to check their flight status before they head to the airport. This comes as fresh cancellations appear on both departure and arrival boards
3. UAE Wins Global Coffee Championship
Just one cup of coffee has put the UAE at the top of the global barista stage. Double-A, represented by Lablibell Bajarias, was the winner of the 2026 International finals of the Lavazza Barista Challenge. This was organised in Italy last March, and she received a community prize. She won the title with her signature creation in Il Bosco, which is a drink combining sustainability with flavour. The ingredients include zero-waste dates, coffee, Sachar, lacto-fermented strawberry, butter coffee, and cascara infusion.
4. Abu Dhabi Police Shares Guidelines For Safe Riding Of E-Bikes

For the safety of riders of e-bikes, Abu Dhabi Police has shared nine guidelines. These are for creating awareness amongst the riders. From wearing personal protective equipment to adhering to speed limits and not wearing earphones while riding, there are many guidelines that have been listed by them.

5. Sick Leave Insurance Scheme Rolled Out In Oman
Oman is all set to roll out a sick leave insurance scheme from July 19th. Basically, employers across the country will now be required to make additional social insurance contributions. They will also have to adapt their payroll and leave management system. This new scheme introduces a one per cent employer-funded contribution. It is based on the basis of each covered employee’s contribution wage. However, the workers will not be required to make separate contributions.
