Dubai Roads and Transport Authority recently announced that a new smart traffic system, which is known as V2X, will be introduced. Yes, as revealed in a report by the Gulf News, it was mentioned that this would connect traffic signals directly to vehicles. This is being done as part of the Smart Connected Vehicles project of the emirate. And we are here to tell you all about the new system.

Dubai To Get New Smart Traffic System

With the new system, expected to roll out across 620 intersections and traffic lights between 2027 and 2028. This has been dubbed a smart traffic system. After all, for the first time ever, the traffic system would transmit real-time information from traffic infrastructure to the dashboard of the connected vehicles. The report mentioned how this initiative aims to transform traffic management in Dubai. As a result, it aims to reduce congestion and even enhance road safety with the help of artificial intelligence.

New Vehicles To Have Built-In Smart Connectivity Features

With the coordination already underway, as mentioned by the Dubai RTA, this coordination is being undertaken with car manufacturers. The aim is to equip new vehicles with built-in smart connectivity features. Additionally, owners of old cars can also benefit from add-on devices or CarPlay. They can also use Android Auto applications that would display live traffic data on the vehicle screen.

Highlights Of The Event

But the next question that arises is, how will it be beneficial for the motorist? Well, it’s quite simple! This system would deliver your traffic information directly to the dashboard of the vehicle. This means it would include the remaining green light duration, signal status at the upcoming intersections, optimal road-crossing speeds, red-light countdowns, detours, closures, congestion alerts, and even accident notifications. Additionally, the future phases would also introduce vehicle-to-vehicle communication so that vehicle drivers of slowdowns or even obstacles that may be ahead.

This infrastructure, which is expected to be completed within two years, will use AI-powered cameras and computer vision analytics to enable instant decisions for enhancing traffic flow.
