Dubai Announces 20,000-Tree Plantation Drive To Honour 20 Years Of Sheikh Mohammed

Dubai Municipality has announced plans to plant 20,000 new trees across parks, residential communities, and educational institutions, to pay tribute to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s leadership of 20 years.

Dubai To Plant 20,000 Trees To Support Sustainbility & Honour Ruler Of Dubai

The initiative marks 20 years of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s leadership of Dubai as mentioned in a report by The National. Instead of fancy celebrations or fireworks, the city is planting trees to practice sustainability and build a greener future. The kind that grow slowly, creating cool streets and serving generations without fame or credit.

According to Dubai Municipality, the project reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s long-held belief that sustainability must sit at the heart of urban growth.

Where The Trees Will Take Root

The planting drive spans some of Dubai’s most loved public spaces. Expect new greenery at Al Barsha South, Al Barsha Pond Park, Nakheel Park in Al Aweer, the Quranic Garden in Al Khawaneej, Blossoms Park at Nad Al Sheba, Al Safa Park in Jumeirah, Al Quoz Pond Park, Umm Suqeim, Al Mizhar Second, and Al Warqa’a 3.

These specific places made it to the list because it’s mostly used by people for walks and other recreational activities. Adding trees will it improves daily life and ofcourse make it more scenic.

Schools Onboard For A Greener And Greater Tomorrow

Schools and universities across Dubai will take part, coordinated by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority.

Institutions will register how many trees they plan to plant and which species they prefer. Dubai Municipality will then supply the saplings that will easily let students experience a new learning shift.

Why Trees Matter More Than Ever

This move also backs the Dubai Green Project and aligns with the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040.

Recent research from Dubai’s Re-Leaf initiative found that trees can be up to 15°C cooler than surrounding hard surfaces. Native, drought-resistant species like neem performed especially well, beating widely commonly planted varieties, and these facts matter in a hot desert climate region.

Twenty thousand trees won’t change Dubai overnight, but will change how the city is in the coming future, and that’s what really matters.
