Dubai’s hotel industry has quietly become one of the most sustainability-obsessed hospitality markets in the region, and the numbers just proved it. The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has handed out its Dubai Sustainable Tourism (DST) Stamp to 237 hotels in the programme’s third cycle, a jump of 55 per cent from the 153 properties recognised last time round, and more than triple the 70 hotels that received it when the initiative first launched back in 2023.

Break it down, and it gets more interesting. Of the 237 winners, 22 hotels walked away with Gold, 92 with Silver, and 123 with Bronze. Every single one was assessed against DET’s 19 Sustainability Requirements, a fairly exhaustive checklist covering energy and water efficiency, waste management, responsible sourcing, employee engagement, guest awareness, community initiatives, and climate action. None of it is self-reported, either; independent third-party assessors did the legwork, and a senior jury committee signed off on the final results.
Yousuf Lootah, CEO of Corporate Strategy and Performance at DET, put the growth down to hotels genuinely embedding sustainability into daily operations rather than treating it as a box-ticking exercise. Given the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 targets sit behind this, the shift matters well beyond hospitality PR.
The Gold List: Who Made The Cut
The Gold tier is where the big names sit. Atlantis, The Palm and Atlantis, The Royal both made it, alongside Fairmont The Palm, Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah, Conrad Dubai, Kempinski Hotel and Residences Palm Jumeirah, and Al Habtoor Palace. FIVE Palm Jumeirah and FIVE Jumeirah Village also picked up Gold, as did Sheraton Grand Hotel Dubai, Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk and Swissotel Al Ghurair. A handful of mid-market names like Hampton by Hilton Dubai Al Barsha, ibis Dubai One Central, ibis World Trade Centre Dubai, and Rove Trade Centre proved sustainability at this level isn’t reserved for five-star budgets.

What The Stamp Actually Means For Travellers
Here’s the practical bit: the DST Stamp is valid for a year, so hotels have to keep meeting the bar to hold onto it. For anyone planning a Dubai stay who cares where their money’s going, it’s a genuinely useful filter, arguably more useful than star ratings, since it’s independently verified rather than self-assigned.
