Dubai: Residents Warned Against Rising Fraud Attempts With Fake QR Codes

People in Dubai have been warned by the Dubai Electronic Security Centre of a rise in fraud attempts with the help of fake QR codes. These QR codes are particularly sent via email. As it happens, the centre mentioned how the scammers exploit the rapid spread of information by circulating QR codes.

Dubai Electronic Security Centre Warns People Against Scam QR Code

Warning people against fraudulent QR codes, the Dubai Electronic Security Centre mentioned how these are exploiting the rapid spread of information. The scammers do so by circulating QR codes, which claim to offer urgent updates or services. If one scans these QR codes, they can end up installing malware, or they might be redirected to a fraudulent website that has been designed to steal personal and financial data.

Importance Of RZAM Application

As mentioned in a report of the Gulf News, the authority also highlighted the importance of using RZAM application. Developed by DESSC, these offer real-time alerts regarding suspicious websites. So, the user can scan links before they open them. This would enhance safe browsing and reduce risk.

Dubai Asks Residents To Remain Vigilant

The development comes after Dubai immigration recently also warned against scams. Earlier in March, the Dubai General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs asked residents and customers to remain vigilant. Vigilance is to be maintained against fraudulent phone calls that request sensitive personal information. Making people aware, the authority emphasises that the government entity never requests personal data over the phone. This includes Emirates ID, OTPs, or any other details.

So with scammers looking for new ways to fool vulnerable people, it is important that one remains aware of what they share online.
