And on Sunday, May 17th, it revealed how 80% of the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel Project has now been completed. Yes, as mentioned in a report of the Dubai Media Office, this is a major milestone in the wider Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This is basically a massive 13 km development, which has been designed to ease congestion. While you don’t forget to improve the community and support the rapid urban growth in Dubai.

More About The Infrastructure Project

This is the new tunnel that stretches 1,650 m from the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp in Deira. It goes all the way to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Al Wuheida Street. As it happens, it features three lanes in each direction and can accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. With this increased accommodation of cars, there would be uninterrupted traffic flow between the Infinity Bridge and Deira.

This construction is a part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project. This corridor extends along the Sheikh Rashid Street, Al Khaleej Street, Al Mina Street, and Cairo Street. Not to mention, it also includes the upgrade of 15 major intersections. As it happens, the corridor has been designed in such a way that it supports both existing residential communities and major future developments. We are talking about the Dubai Islands, Dubai Maritime City, Waterfront Market, and Port Rashid.

The Upgraded Road Network Would Improve Traffic Flow

It is also expected that the upgraded road network will significantly improve traffic flow. This would be for residents and visitors who are travelling through Abu Hail, Al Mamzar, Dubai Islands, Al Wuheida, Waterfront Market and Al Hamriya Port. With the aim of speeding up delivery ahead of the targeted completion, which is in the fourth quarter of this year, Dubai RTA has said that 14 teams are working around the clock for excavation support works. This includes the installation of retaining walls and sheet piles for deep and medium-depth excavations.

There is also a 1,425 m bridge, which links Bur Dubai directly to the Dubai Islands that are coming up. This bridge would feature four lanes in each direction, and there would be a total capacity for 16,000 vehicles per hour. This would rise 18.5 m above Dubai Creek in order to allow marine traffic to pass beneath. This would be done through a 75 m wide navigation channel, and the project will include dedicated pedestrian and cycling tracks, which would be equipped with lifts.
