Dubai tenants could soon have a new option for managing one of their biggest annual expenses. It is reportedly set to launch a “Rent Now, Pay Later” service in September that will allow tenants to spread annual rent payments over up to 12 months without interest.

Dubai To Launch ‘Rent Now, Pay Later’ Scheme Letting Tenants Split Annual Rent

The initiative is being developed by the Dubai Land Department (DLD) in partnership with a local bank and is aimed at giving tenants greater payment flexibility and making housing more accessible. Under the proposed mechanism, a tenant would select a residential property, and the participating bank would pay the landlord the full annual rent upfront. The tenant would then repay the bank in flexible instalments over up to 12 months at zero interest, according to sources familiar with the initiative.

It’s worth noting this is still a proposal. The final mechanism is still being developed, with full eligibility requirements and details covering applications, financing, repayments and the relationship between tenants, landlords and the bank expected to be announced when the service officially launches. If introduced in its proposed final form, the initiative could make Dubai the first city globally to implement such a mechanism as an integrated part of its rental market.

Building On The Flexi Rent Initiative

This follows DLD’s June 23 launch of the “Flexi Rent” initiative that allowed tenants to pay their rents on a monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual basis, , according to a report by Emarat Al Youm.

That earlier initiative also introduced incentives and packages from participating entities, aimed at supporting rental market stability and improving quality of life for different segments of the community.

What We Still Don’t Know

We’re still waiting for confirmation on some key details, such as the bank to be used, the eligibility criteria and whether landlords can opt out. More clarity is expected once DLD makes an official announcement closer to the September launch window.
