Dubai’s Burj Khalifa Lights Up In Indian Tricolour For India’s 80th Independence Day

Dubai’s Burj Khalifa lit up in India’s tricolour on Saturday night, August 15, to mark the country’s 80th Independence Day. Indian expats, residents, and visitors gathered around the landmark to watch and capture the display.

The illumination turned the Dubai landmark saffron, white, and green, drawing spectators who photographed and recorded the display. Videos of the Burj Khalifa in the colours of the Indian flag were also shared online.

The Indian Consulate in Dubai also shared a video of the display, describing it as a tribute to India’s 80th Independence Day and the friendship between India and the UAE.

UAE Is Home To 4.5 Million Indian Expats

The UAE is home to an estimated 4.5 million Indian expats, according to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, making Indians one of the country’s largest expatriate communities.

For the Indian community in the UAE, the Burj Khalifa display brought the Independence Day celebrations to one of Dubai’s most recognisable landmarks. The tricolour illumination was part of the wider celebrations held across the country on August 15.

The display also highlighted the close ties between India and the UAE, with the Burj Khalifa joining other landmarks and institutions in marking India’s national day.
