Egypt is home to some of the most iconic treasures from the ancient world. However, the country is now on high alert after reports of an ancient wall panel being stolen. Yes, as revealed in a report by the Gulf News, these wall panels are from a Pharaonic tomb of Saqqara archaeological sites, and come just days after an ancient bracelet was also stolen from the Cairo museum.
Wall Panel Stolen From Pharaonic Tomb
As revealed in the same report, the wall panel was stolen with the help of a power saw. This saw was used to remove the painting from the historic wall, which is inside the tomb of Khentkaus, which is in the Giza Governorate. It should be noted that the site has remained sealed since 2019, which indicates the panel had remained untouched for years before the theft.
All The Necessary Legal Procedures Are Taking Place
Now, as confirmed by the Ministry of Antiquities in Egypt, all the necessary legal procedures are being undertaken. Additionally, a case has also been referred to the public prosecution for further investigation. It should be noted that the tomb had been completely sealed and was used as a storage site for artefacts ever since it was discovered in the 1950s. It had not been opened since 2019! With the ministry closely monitoring the investigation, this is being undertaken in coordination with the relevant authorities. There is also emphasis being laid on the importance of efforts that are being made to safeguard the archaeological heritage of Egypt.
Rare Bracelet Of The King Was Stolen
The development comes after a rare piece that belongs to the King Psusennes I, who was the third pharaoh of the 21st Dynasty, was stolen. The disappearance of the priceless golden bracelet occurred from the conservation lab of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. As such, the bracelet weighs about 600 g of solid gold, and it was last seen during packing operations inside specialised restoration labs.
The lack of surveillance cameras inside the restoration lab poses a serious gap in the probe.
