Visitors heading to Khorfakkan’s coastline could soon have a new reason to stop by Al Luluyah Beach. A new AED 8 million heritage project of Khorfakkan is set to reshape the area around a centuries-old archaeological site, bringing together history, shopping and dining in one beachfront location as a market. The development will focus on restoring the historic remains while creating a more welcoming space for visitors.

Khorfakkan To Get New Heritage Market Around A 15th-Century Archaeological Site

One of the biggest additions will be a heritage-style market overlooking the restored archaeological site.

Plans include 20 shops designed to reflect traditional architecture, along with restaurants and cafés spread across the area. The idea is to create a place where people can spend more time rather than simply stopping for a quick look at the historic remains.

For many visitors, beach trips are already a regular part of a Khorfakkan getaway. The new market could give people another reason to stay longer. It also means local businesses may benefit from increased footfall once the project opens.

The Site’s Historic Character Will Remain The Focus

Although new facilities are being added, the archaeological site remains at the centre of the development.

The surviving remains, restored, date from the 15th century and constitute the core of the project. Rather than building over the area, the plan is to preserve its historical value while making it easier for people to explore and appreciate it.

In this case, visitors will be able to walk through the area while learning about a site that has stood for hundreds of years.

More Comfortable Spaces For Families And Tourists

New seating areas and shaded pathways will also be added throughout the site. These features are expected to make visits more comfortable, especially during warmer months. Also, the walkways will connect different parts of the development, helping people move easily between the market, dining areas and archaeological remains.

With Al Luluyah Beach already attracting visitors for its coastal views, the upgrades could help turn the area into a more complete day-out destination.

Completion Expected Within Six Months

Construction and restoration works are now moving ahead, with completion targeted within six months. Once finished, the development will offer a mix of heritage, leisure and waterfront experiences in one location. For residents and tourists alike, it could become one of Khorfakkan’s newest attractions while keeping an important piece of local history alive.
